When you think of the core, you’re thinking of an apple core, right?! Well maybe, but thats not what were talking about here. The CORE we are referring to is the center mass of the body. Everything minus the arms and legs, more specifically the transverse abdominals, internal and external obliques, diaphragm, lower back and the pelvic floor muscles. Think about breathing in, holding your breath and then exhaling, twisting from right to left, and holding in that much needed bathroom break. These are all actions performed by the core musculature. The core is your bodies foundation and you wouldn’t be much of anything with out it (just like this apple). With about 80% of Americans suffering from lower back pain at some point in their lives, it’s the second most common reason for hospital visits. The good thing is about 95% of these injuries can be prevented with regular exercise (specifically pelvis and abdominal focused exercises).
