THE MUSCLE & MIND RELATIONSHIP
The process of exercising isn’t exactly rocket science, BUT there are massive advantages of keeping your mind on track; literally. I many times see people in the gym mindlessly working out, as if they were on auto pilot. Although these people are exercising, they just aren’t getting the effectiveness out of their precious time. So what are we talking about here “The Mind & Muscle Relationship”? Its extremely beneficial that most of your thoughts when performing technical exercises are on the actual movement process. Focus your mind on that particular movement and your body will respond 3 fold. Here is a list of the benefits.
- Increased muscle stimulation (greater amount of muscle fibers activated)
- Better muscle response time
- Injury Prevention
- A greater Focus during workouts
The mind is a very powerful tool. You MUST concentrate on the exact movement you are performing. Allow your muscle to stretch(relax), when stretched and focus on contracting(squeezing) when performing the concentric part of a particular exercise. Example: when performing a basic crunch on the floor, make sure you are conscientiously squeezing on every crunch. This will seriously stimulate your abs. The more you focus, the better the results! This simple but effective TIP will help you get the most out of your workouts. Exercising is not any different then others things we strive to succeed in. We must make sure we are paying attention to our bodies while we exercise.
