Why Energy Drinks are Stunting your Fat Loss, Substitute these Alternative Drinks Instead!

Energy Drink Sugar Overload

Look at the sugar amounts before choosing an energy drink

Look at the sugar amounts before choosing an energy drink

If an energy drink is part of your everyday routine, STOP!  These sugary concoctions overload your bodies ability to break down the sugars into glycogen(your bodies energy source), and instead promote fat storage.  Yeah! Energy drinks like  the regular Rockstar (62 grams of sugar) do a great job of flushing the body with an instant energy source, BUT also do a great job of reversing fat loss. The human body can only break down so much sugar at one time, any excess is converted into fat with in the body tissues.  Depending on muscle mass, body fat percentage and activity level,  it only takes about 15 grams of sugar to significantly raise blood glucose levels (amount of sugar in the blood).  The higher the blood sugar levels, the greater chance a percentage of that metabolized sugar will be converted into fat.  Check out the list of popular energy drinks below (amount of sugar).

  • 22 oz – RockStar Punched ( 102 grams)
  • 16 oz – RockStar Juiced (63 grams)
  • 20 oz – SoBe Citrus (76 grams)
  • 16 oz – StarBucks Grande Caffe Mocha (33 grams)
  • 16 oz – NOS energy drink (59 grams)
  • 16 oz – Monster (54 grams)
  • 16 oz – Full Throttle (58 grams)

Sugar has its time and place, but more than likely your abusing it! So here is a list of alternative energy drinks that will provide the same effects using vitamins and minerals instead of high sugar content.

What are some other ‘healthy’ energy drinks?
    I drink FRS.
You can buy it at GNC so it MUST be good, right?

The FRS drinks come in a lot of varieties, from protein shakes to energy drinks. I would recommend choosing the options with lower sugar levels, unless its after a weight training workout. Most energy drinks are pure sugar, so just check the back and look at the sugar amounts(grams). Less is better!
