The Shake Weight: Quality or Garbage?

Is the Shake Weight really going to sculpt your arms like it promises?

The Shake Weight made its first debut july 2009, and was quickly noticed by certain talk show hosts like Ellen DeGeneres, Jimmy Kimmel, The Daily Show, and even sitcoms like Two & Half Men.  Was this instant fame because of the amazing results the Shake Weight provided or its humiliating resemblance of a certain activity?  There has been a unique trend to this products “free” advertising, and its not about the effective 6 minute workouts.  This product deserves a fair test, Quality or Junk? Let’s go over the principles of the Shake Weight.

The Shake Weight weighs 2.5 lbs and claims to increase muscle activity in the arms, chest and shoulders by more than 300%, all working from its unique dynamic inertia principle.  The company website further adds that a user will “get incredible results from just 6 minutes a day”.  I have personally tried the shake weight and can say it does provide a unique form of resistance, and to perform it for a total of 6 minutes is quite difficult.  But to say it’s going to increase strength, build muscle and tone the arms, chest, and shoulders, it might be a little overzealous in its claims! I know about 2 dozen women who have bought the Shake Weight and 99% of them are collecting dust underneath the couch.  If you want to incorporate the Shake Weight into a upper body workout as an interval session for a minute or two at a time, GREAT! (reasoning behind the 5 star rating), but don’t think the Shake Weight alone is going to transform your arms like the fit girl in the informercial! This girl definitely uses other forms of training, like resistance machines “which The Shake Weight Informercial claims produce bulky man muscles”….this is completely FALSE!  Muscles are gender biased, and female genetics/hormones do not promote bulky muscles.  Stick with moderate weights and higher repetition ranges for incredibly toned muscles!

If your going to use this product, Great! but i would recommend not to waste your hard earned money or 6 minutes!  I rate this product a whopping 5 out of 10 stars only because its quite difficult to perform for a consecutive 6 minutes!

Rating: 5 stars

Quality or Garbage?

Closing Question: by August 2010 the shake weight reportedly sold 2 million products, grossing over 40 million dollars in sales. I wonder how many of those 2 million products sold have provided its owner the sculpted arms they were after? There is one thing we know, Johann Verheem, the inventor is one wealthy man!
