Power of Blueberries

The Blueberry

We are right in the heart of blueberry season which starts in may(florida) an ends around september. Although they are grown all over the world at all times of the year, the best blueberries are the freshest. Native to North America blueberries grow mostly in North Carolina, Maryland, New Jersey, Michigan and 25% coming from Maine(low bush). It’s time to take advantage of this luscious little berry and reap the benefits.

Benefits

Blueberries contain anthocyanins, antioxidants and phytochemicals, which have been shown to reduce risks of some diseases, including inflammation and certain cancers, especially in wild blueberries. Measured by the USDA, blueberries have one of the highest Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacities(ORAC). Foods high in ORAC are high in antioxidants. Antioxidants help fight free radicals that destroy the cells of the body as we age. Blueberries help fight aging, lower bad cholesterol, prevents heart disease, increase memory functions, prevent urinary tract infections, and help reduce constipation.

What to do with them
