Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)

fitword of the day

Basal metabolic rate (BMR) The lowest amount of Calories burned  to sustain life.

BMR is the amount of calories you need to sustain life at rest. This means the amount of calories your body burns a day while you do nothing, like sleeping.  As you age your BMR decreases, thats why it seams harder to eat what ever you want year after year. Starving yourself, in hopes of losing weight actually slows down your BMR; so instead you can increase your BMR with regular exercise and a healthy balanced diet.
